Construction industry
Steel is widely used in the construction industry, mainly in the following aspects:
- Structural support
- Steel structure building : Widely used in large factories, stadiums, skyscrapers and other buildings. Components such as beams, steel columns, and steel trusses made of shaped steel and steel plates are connected by welds, bolts, and rivets to form the skeleton of the steel structure. It has high strength, light weight, good overall rigidity, and strong resistance to deformation, making it suitable for building large-span and super-high, super-heavy buildings.
- Reinforced concrete structure : Steel bars are an important part of reinforced concrete structures, which can effectively improve the tensile strength of concrete and make up for the shortcomings of concrete's poor tensile performance. Common ones include hot-rolled round steel bars and hot-rolled ribbed steel bars, which are widely used in structural components such as beams, slabs, and columns of buildings.
- Enclosure structure
- Roof panels and wall panels : Profiled steel sheet is a commonly used roof and wall enclosure material, which is formed by pressing thin sheets. It has the advantages of light weight, high strength, good waterproof performance, and convenient installation. It is often used in the roofs and walls of industrial plants, warehouses, gymnasiums and other buildings.
- Curtain wall support : Refined steel is often used for curtain wall keel frames, columns, and beams. Its excellent tensile and compressive properties are perfectly adapted to high-rise buildings and special-shaped curtain walls. High-precision processing makes the curtain wall panels flat and sealed; the lightweight advantages brought by the optimized section design effectively reduce material consumption and the overall building load, helping to achieve large-span and large-area glass curtain walls.
- Decoration
- Decorative lines and shapes : Steel can be processed into various decorative lines for interior and exterior decoration of buildings, such as door and window trim, cornice lines, baseboards, etc., which can increase the beauty and three-dimensionality of the building. In lobbies and curtain wall facades, refined steel can also be transformed into decorative lines, grilles, metal shapes, etc. After surface treatments such as polishing and fluorocarbon spraying, it fully demonstrates the metal texture and individual colors.
- Stairs and railings : The steps, handrails, and railings of stairs are often made of steel. For example, stainless steel stair handrails are beautiful, durable, and easy to clean; wrought iron railings add a retro or personalized atmosphere to the building with their unique shapes and artistic sense.
- Infrastructure
- Bridge engineering : Steel is an important material for building bridges, such as large steel beam bridges, suspension bridges, and cable-stayed bridges. The high strength and good toughness of steel make it able to withstand the huge loads and various complex external forces acting on the bridge, and it can also adapt to the deformation and vibration requirements of the bridge structure.
- Rail transit : In rail transit projects such as subways and light rails, steel is used to build tracks, bridges, station structures, etc. For example, the steel rails of the track need to have high wear resistance, high strength, and good fatigue resistance to ensure the safe operation of the train.
Under the guidance of the “dual carbon” goal, steel structure buildings are developing towards miniaturization, refinement, and lightweight due to their outstanding energy saving and carbon reduction advantages and recyclability, and have broad development prospects. In the future, with the continuous advancement of technology, the application of steel in the construction industry will be more extensive and in-depth.
